Our school community

A community is a place where people live, work and play together.

Our school community is a place where students, parents, teachers and support staff work together to provide a holistic learning environment for the students. Of course, there is play involved, too.

The students spent time reflecting on who they know and don't know, in our school community. Some of them recognised faces that they see and talk to, everyday. Some knew what the community member does, but did not know their name or where to find them on the school campus.

So, we embarked on a walk around the school campus to put some faces to the names, and vice versa.

As the active inquirers that they are, in groups, the students conducted face-to-face interviews with their chosen school community member to gather information about their role and responsibilities in our school.

Before the interviews took place, the groups spent time practicing how to conduct an interview.

Naturally, some of the preschoolers were quire nervous for the interview process but they showed that they are developing their risk-taking skills. The preschoolers are becoming very capable communicators.

Next week, the students will spend time analysing the information that they gathered in their interviews.

Posture class with Mr Didier

The students jumped at the chance to do a few activities with Mr Didier, to practice good posture. Thank you, Mr Didier for helping us remember to sit and stand in ways that support our strong, growing bodies!

Farewell, butterflies!

Two out of our three chrysalides emerged this week as butterflies! The students jumped for joy as they witnessed one of the butterflies take flight. We hope that they enjoy their lives out in nature. We now await the last chrysalis to emerge as a butterfly.

Enjoy your weekend, everyone!

Communities

This week in the preschool class, the students inquired into different types of communities. We started thinking about the communities closest to us; our families. We drew portraits of our families and shared what we enjoy doing with our unique families.

Using stick puppies the students role-played the activities that they enjoy doing with their families.

We also discussed our neighbourhood communities. The students shared what they know about some of the people who help us in our communities... police officers, mechanics, vets, etc. We even took a walk to a nearby building and went up all the way to the 18th floor, where we were able to get wonderful views of our school's neighbourhood community!

The preschoolers showed great responsibility and adventure during this week's earthquake drill.

Our caterpillar family is now our chrysalis family, and hopefully they will be butterflies soon!

Have a wonderful extended weekend, everyone! I hope you make the time to honour the elderly members of your families and communities on Monday.

Responsibilities

This week in the Busy Bees Preschool Classroom we have been exploring what responsibilities are. We used our Classroom Helpers system to discuss what specific responsibilities certain roles have.

"The table monitor has the responsibility of making sure that the tables and chairs are clean and tidy."

"Line leaders are responsible for leading the line."

"The librarian is responsible for keeping the bookshelves neat and tidy."

"The gardener has the responsibility of watering our plants and making sure that the caterpillar family has enough water."

"The weather reporter is responsible for checking the weather during morning ring."

The preschoolers displayed principled and responsible behaviour when they took the time to clean up after a cutting and pasting activity.

For Fun Friday, the students were beaming with excitement to share their "All About Me Bag" with their classmates. The students enjoyed sharing more about more about themselves with their classmates. We learned about some of the students favourite sports, their special loved ones, their favourite memories and so much more.

Well done, Busy Bees! You showed endearing bravery and creativity!

Please don't forget to send more lemon tree leaves for our caterpillar family! 🐛

Have an awesome weekend everyone!
