This week the preschoolers presented their Who We Are Exhibition to their parents, schoolmates and teachers.
They spent time researching valuable elements of their cultures; such as food, languages, celebrations, traditions, clothing and unique facts about their cultures.
The exhibition was an opportunity for the students to show their learning and understanding of what we have learnt. They used their creativity and imagination to present their work in a beautiful way.
Some were nervous and feeling a little shy, but the few practice rounds that they had with a partner helped them prepare to deliver their presentations a little bit more confidently.
The morning was a special one, which ended with lots of proud parents, teachers and preschoolers!
The preschoolers were excited to present their cultures to the students and teachers in our school. Class by class, the students visited our exhibition. Interesting questions were asked and answered and stories relating to their cultures were shared between each other.
As part of our reflection process, the preschoolers assessed their friends' presentations by highlighting one thing that they liked and one thing they think their friend could improve on next time. This feedback will help the preschoolers be more mindful researchers and presenters next time. They are growing into strong communicators.
The preschoolers spent time reflecting on the entire unit. We spoke about the new knowledge that we have gathered about our own cultures and traditions, and also what we have learnt about our friends' cultures. The preschoolers shared ideas for what they can put into action in future, to show respect for different cultures.
"Be kind!"
"Respecting the rules of the country/culture."
"Not saying unkind words about particular cultural foods. Try it, you just might like it!"
"If you don't like the food, you can just think it - you don't have to say."
"Learn about other cultures to show respect for it."
Celebrating is something that the preschoolers can do very well! It has been enlightening to see how they have grown in being open-minded and principled. Now that is something that deserves to be celebrated!
Well done, Busy Bees! We look forward to seeing how you use this newfound knowledge to embrace and appreciate differences and similarities. These differences and similarities are what makes us who we are.
Happy Birthday to two of our Busy Bees, Otto and Ran! Thank you for sharing the yummy cake and donuts with us!
Have an awesome weekend, everyone!
